Saginaw Mail Carriers
(2008-02-29)
(wgvu) - Neither snow, rain, heat, nor gloom of
night might keep letter carriers in Saginaw from doing their jobs.
But gunfire and aggressive dogs are something else.
The U.S. Postal Service has temporarily suspended mail
deliveries in some neighborhoods where letter carriers have faced
real or implied violence.
A postal official tells The Saginaw News carriers regularly hear
gunshots. That leads to the Postal Service to suspend delivery one
block in each direction from the gunfire to protect workers.
One carrier was shot in the back of the head Tuesday with a BB
gun. Police arrested three teens and confiscated two guns.
Deliveries to an area of northwest Detroit were suspended for
about six weeks last spring because of loose dogs and staged
dogfights.
