Trash Crash
(2008-02-28)
(wgvu) - Three rigs stuffed with Canadian trash
bound for Michigan landfills flipped on Highway 402 in southern
Ontario, spilling garbage that blocked traffic for hours.
Ontario Provincial Police say officers were responding to the
first crash when two more trucks lost control minutes later after
hitting an icy patch in the same spot.
The mess shut down the westbound lanes for several hours
Wednesday. Front-end loaders were used to pick up the trash -
strewn across the highway and the median - and dump it into other
trucks.
Police say speed may have been a factor in the crashes.
