heaping praise on Doug Fraser, the ex-United Auto Workers union
leader who died over the weekend.
Current UAW President Ron Gettelfinger says Fraser was "kind of
like Elvis."
He says if you say "Doug" in the labor movement, everybody
knows who you're talking about.
Democratic Congressman John Dingell says Fraser was a
"dedicated labor leader who cared deeply about the well-being of
his fellow Americans."
Governor Granholm says Fraser gave his "heart and soul to
working people," then became a college teacher after retiring from
the union.
And Ford Chairman Bill Ford says he's grateful to Fraser for
helping U.S. automakers survive the downturn of the early 1980s.
