Wife Slain
(2008-02-06)
(wgvu) - MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say audiotapes of
jailhouse chats between convicted wife killer Stephen Grant and his
sister will be used in asking a judge to exceed sentencing
guidelines.
Assistant Macomb County Prosecutor William Cataldo says excerpts
from conversations between Grant and Kelly Utykanski will be played
at Grant's February 21st sentencing.
Cataldo says the conversations along with other evidence will be
used to give the judge a reason to exceed the minimum sentence of
18 to 31 years in prison.
Prosecutors were releasing the tapes today in response to media
requests filed under the Freedom of Information Act.
Grant was convicted of second-degree murder in December in the
slaying of his wife, Tara, in their Washington Township home last
year. He also dismembered her body.
