Detroit federal court hearing planned for affirmative action suit
dealing with affirmative action programs in Michigan are preparing
for a court hearing.
The voter-approved measure bans the use of race and gender
preferences in university admissions and government hiring and
contracting.
Parts of the law have been challenged by several groups
including the NAACP, the American Civil Liberties Union and By Any
Means Necessary.
A hearing in the case before U.S. District Court Judge David
Lawson is scheduled for Wednesday in Detroit.
The affirmative action measure is sometimes referred to as
Proposal 2.
