AUTOS-UNION
(2008-02-04)
(wgvu) - THE HEAD OF THE UNITED AUTO WORKERS SAYS THE
UNION WILL AGGRESSIVELY WORK TO ELECT EITHER HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON
OR BARACK OBAMA TO THE WHITE HOUSE.
BUT RON GETTELFINGER SAYS THE UAW HAS NO PLANS TO TAKE THE SIDE
OF ONE OR THE OTHER IN THE RACE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL
NOMINATION.
GETTELFINGER MADE THE COMMENT TONIGHT TO ABOUT 1,000 UNION
ACTIVISTS ASSEMBLED IN WASHINGTON FOR A POLITICAL CONFERENCE.
HE SAYS WORKERS WILL BE MOTIVATED BY THE LOSS OF MORE THAN 3
MILLION MANUFACTURING JOBS SINCE JANUARY 2001, A GAPING BUDGET
DEFICIT AND THE CLOSING OF THOUSANDS OF FACTORIES NATIONWIDE.
