Ford and Nissan report a dip in January US sales
(2008-02-01)
(wgvu) - DETROIT (AP) - Ford and Nissan both are reporting drops in
January vehicle sales.
Ford says its U.S. light vehicle sales fell nearly 4 percent
last month.
The Detroit automaker was the first to report figures for what
industry analysts expect to be the beginning of the worst sales
year in more than a decade.
Ford says it sold about 160,000 light vehicles in January. It's
continuing a strategy to wean itself from low-profit rental car and
other fleet sales.
But sales still dropped when compared with January 2007, when
the company sold nearly 166,000 cars and trucks.
Nissan reports selling about 76,600 vehicles in January. That's
down from about 82,600 a year ago.
Nissan says car sales dropped nearly 7 percent while truck sales
nose-dived about 8 percent.
