Grand Traverse jury convicts man of killing pregnant girlfriend USA (wgvu) - TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A jury in Grand Traverse County has
found a 21-year-old man guilty of killing his pregnant girlfriend.
Justin Scott Stair was found guilty Thursday of first-degree
murder in the death of 28-year-old Dawnette Marie Harrell.
Jurors also convicted Stair of assaulting a pregnant woman and
causing the death of a fetus.
Sentencing was postponed, but the murder charge carries a
mandatory term of life in prison without parole.
Harrell was about 5 weeks pregnant when she disappeared April 2,
2006. Her body was discovered more than a year later, near the home
of Stairs' parents in Whitewater Township. She had been shot in the
head.
Officers say they found a .32-caliber revolver, Harrell's car
keys and her purse in the house.
