AUTO SALES-OUTLOOK
(2008-01-31)
(wgvu) - THE YEAR AUTOMAKERS HAVE BEEN DREADING HAS BEGUN.
AUTOMAKERS REPORT JANUARY SALES TOMORROW, AND ANALYSTS FORECAST
U.S. SALES COULD FALL BY AS MANY AS 36,000 VEHICLES IN JANUARY FROM
THE SAME MONTH LAST YEAR.
THAT WOULD BEAR OUT PREDICTIONS THAT 2008 COULD BE THE WORST
YEAR FOR AUTOMAKERS IN MORE THAN A DECADE.
GENERAL MOTORS, FORD AND CHRYSLER COULD TAKE THE BIGGEST BLOWS
AS THEY MAKE PROMISED REDUCTIONS IN LOW-PROFIT SALES TO RENTAL-CAR
FLEETS.
