Kellogg Foundation gives $3 million to help build MLK memorial
(wgvu) - WASHINGTON (AP) - The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has announced a 3
million-dollar gift to help complete the long-planned memorial to
Martin Luther King Junior on Washington's National Mall.
Sterling Speirn is president of the Michigan-based foundation
started by the breakfast cereal pioneer. He says the memorial will
serve as a reminder of the need for racial equality.
Fundraising for the memorial was sluggish at the start, but
officials say enough money has been raised to start construction.
The latest gift brings the fund to 90 million dollars -- with 100
million dollars needed to complete the project.
