Cox sues to stop state political payroll deduction plan
stop the state of Michigan from allowing state employees to have
political donations deducted from their paychecks.
Cox's office filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Ingham County.
The Michigan Civil Service Commission decided last month that
state workers should be able to raise money for union-backed
candidates and issues through payroll deductions. The agency's
decision came despite Cox's warning that it didn't have the
authority to allow such a program.
Cox, a Republican, also says state law prohibits the use of
government funds or other resources to make political
contributions.
A spokesman for the Civil Service Commission says the agency
will review the suit and discuss how to proceed.
