Plaster sculpture of 19th-century boxer returned to tavern
a Royal Oak watering hole.
A 42-inch-tall, 40-pound plaster figure of the 19th-century
prizefighter occupied a spot at the end of the Town Tavern's bar
until going missing on Jan. 19.
Bar owner Bill Roberts says he offered dinner and drinks for the
statue's return - no questions asked. But he says a manager opening
the bar on Wednesday morning discovered the statue wrapped in a
trash bag and set by the bar's front door.
Roberts says the statue is scratched but back in its rightful
home.
Police had promised they wouldn't prosecute whoever absconded
with the statue, as long as it was returned. Roberts says nobody
knows who took it, or returned it, but his reward still stands.
