Detroit mayor names replacement day after top aide's resignation
(wgvu) - DETROIT (AP) - Embattled Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has
named a new chief of staff to replace Christine Beatty.
The hiring of Kandia Milton on Tuesday comes one day after
Beatty resigned amid allegations that she and the mayor lied under
oath about an affair during a whistle-blower trial.
Kilpatrick has not been seen in public since news of sexually
explicit text messages between him and Beatty broke last week,
prompting speculation about the mayor's future.
Milton's appointment could be an indication that Kilpatrick does
not intend to step down.
Milton currently is the deputy chief of staff.
