Groups rally to keep earned income tax credit in place
(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Supporters of a new state tax credit for
low-income working people say it should take effect this year as
The credit will cost the state tax revenue. But supporters say
it has other economic and social benefits that make it worthwhile.
The state's earned income tax credit complements a federal tax
credit and is designed to put more money back in the pockets of
low-income workers.
A few lawmakers have suggested delaying the tax credit to help
the state's financial situation. But that idea has not advanced in
the Legislature.
