ABORTION LAW
(2008-01-23)
(wgvu) - - THE REPUBLICAN-CONTROLLED MICHIGAN SENATE
USED THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROE V. WADE DECISION TO PASS A BILL
THAT WOULD BAN A PROCEDURE OPPONENTS CALL PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION.
ABORTION OPPONENTS SAY THE MEASURE IS NEEDED SO STATE AND LOCAL
AUTHORITIES CAN PROSECUTE DOCTORS WHO PERFORM THE PROCEDURE.
ABORTION RIGHTS SUPPORTERS SAY THE LEGISLATION IS A WASTE OF
TIME SINCE THE U.S. SUPREME COURT HAS UPHELD A FEDERAL LAW BANNING
THE PROCEDURE.
IT'S UNCLEAR WHETHER THE DEMOCRATIC-LED HOUSE WILL TAKE UP THE
BILL.
