Immigrant Drivers
(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan is now requiring more
documentation to get a driver's license.
The move is aimed at stopping illegal immigrants from getting
driver's licenses.
The new requirements also may stop some who are legally in
Michigan but not permanent residents from getting licenses. But
that provision could be changed under terms of bills pending in the
state Legislature.
The changes are sparked by a recent opinion from Attorney
General Mike Cox.
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land said the new measures go into
effect Tuesday.
