Senate votes to give credit for complying with service tax USA (wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP ) - The Michigan Senate has voted to give
businesses a tax credit equal to the expenses they incurred to
comply with the short-lived service tax.
Majority Republicans say the legislation keeps good faith with
job providers. Democrats say it's fiscally irresponsible.
It's unclear how much businesses paid over a two-month period to
comply with the tax, which was repealed the day it took effect.
But the nonpartisan Senate Fiscal Agency estimates the proposed
tax credit could cost state government an unknown and potentially
significant amount.
Majority Democrats in the House probably won't be supportive of
the measure.
