Former Muskegon County car dealer gets jail time in fraud
(2008-01-11)
(wgvu) - MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - A former Muskegon County automobile
dealer is going to jail in a fraud involving hundreds of customers
of more than $300,000.
Muskegon County Circuit Judge Timothy Hicks sentenced
43-year-old Tony Nielsen of Wayland to 10 months behind bars, 30
months of probation and 100 hours of community service. Hicks also
ordered Nielsen to pay restitution.
The former owner of the Discovery Ford dealership in Whitehall
Township pleaded no contest last month to three felony fraud
charges.
A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but judges treat
it as a guilty plea for sentencing purposes.
Prosecutors say Nielsen cheated customers through an
extended-warranty scam and by not paying off loans on trade-ins.
