Missing Man
(wgvu) - MAUNA KEA, Hawaii (AP) - Family and firefighters are giving up
their search for a 67-year-old Michigan man who disappeared
December 5 in a blizzard atop Hawaii's Mauna Kea.
Brian Murphy of the Detroit suburb of Plymouth told an employee
at a 9,000-foot-level visitors center that he wanted to hike to the
13,796-foot summit.
The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for the
summit a few hours later, and a friend reported him missing that
Murphy's sisters-in-law, Sarah O'Hare and Bridget Wallman,
traveled from Detroit to join in the search but planned to fly home
Firefighters called off their search Sunday after acknowledging
the difficulty of finding someone in such a vast area.
