Ford Anniversary
(2007-12-26)
(wgvu) - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - It was a year ago today that
President Ford died at age 93.
He was born in Nebraska but grew up in the Grand Rapids area.
People seem more interested in Ford since his death.
His presidential museum in downtown Grand Rapids is attracting
more than twice as many people as it did before he died.
Ford is the only president who ever held that office without
being elected president or vice president.
President Nixon appointed Ford vice president in 1973 to replace
Spiro Agnew, who resigned in a bribery scandal stemming from his
days as Maryland's governor.
Ford assumed the presidency after the Watergate scandal forced
Nixon to resign in 1974.
Ford served for two and a half years in the Oval Office.
