Saving Energy
(wgvu) - NILES, Mich. (AP) - Greg Gunder believes computers deserve a
Christmas break, too.
The retired Niles Community Schools teacher makes the rounds of
the district's 11 buildings, making sure hundreds of computer
monitors are turned off until classes resume January 7th.
The energy educator also sets thermostats on "vacation" mode
and even shuts off digital clocks and plug-in air fresheners.
The South Bend (Ind.) Tribune reports that Gunder and the
district's operations director have saved taxpayers about $548,000
in energy costs over the past two years.
Gunder says he gets teased and is called the "energy man," but
he's just trying to save the district some money.
