Legislative Leader
(wgvu) - The leaders of the Michigan Legislature
appear focused on building confidence in the state's economy as
they prepare for 2008.
House Speaker Andy Dillon and Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop
are discussing economic topics with business leaders. A key focus
is restoring confidence in both the economy and the state
Legislature's ability to help move the state forward.
Bishop and Dillon are finishing their first year as the
top-ranking members of the state Legislature.
It often was a frustrating 12 months as lawmakers spent most of
their time dealing with budget problems caused in part by the
state's sluggish economy.
Michigan has had the nation's highest unemployment rate for much
of the year. The jobless rate in November was 7.4 percent.
