(2007-12-10)
(wgvu) - RAND HAVEN, Mich. (AP) - Four men convicted of kidnapping,
raping and murdering a Hope College student in 1979 have been
sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Carl Paiva of Muskegon, Anthony Williams of Wisconsin and West
Virginians James Nelson and Freddie Parker each received the
maximum sentence allowed under the law during the afternoon court
hearing.
An Ottawa County jury last month convicted them in the death of
22-year-old Janet Chandler.
Two other people confessed earlier to having roles in Chandler's
death in Holland.
Laurie Swank and Robert Lynch are serving prison terms after
pleading guilty to second-degree murder charges.
