(wgvu) - \- GOVERNOR GRANHOLM SAYS MICHIGAN IS
UNIQUELY POSITIONED TO TURN PARTS OF ITS AILING AUTO INDUSTRY INTO
A MANUFACTURING CENTER FOR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY EQUIPMENT.
SHE SAYS THAT COULD INCLUDE WIND TURBINES, SOLAR CELLS AND WASTE
RECYCLING.
GRANHOLM HAS HELD A SERIES OF ROUNDTABLES WITH BUSINESSES
INTERESTED IN GETTING ON THE ALTERNATIVE ENERGY BANDWAGON, AND SAYS
SHE'S ENCOURAGED BY THE RESPONSE.
SHE SAYS THE COMPANIES INCLUDE DOWDING INDUSTRIES IN EATON
RAPIDS, WHICH IS HIRING 250 WORKERS TO BUILD WIND TURBINE
COMPONENTS.
GRANHOLM SAID THERE'S A TWO-YEAR WAITING LISTS FOR THE TURBINES
BECAUSE OF LACK OF FACTORY CAPACITY.
