Muskegon YMCA Revokes Members from Sex Offender List
memberships of 20 people because they're listed as sex offenders in
Michigan.
Chief Executive Luke Seward says the agency's insurance carrier
suggested looking at adopting a policy of banning sex offenders.
The board approved the new policy in September and letters were
mailed to terminated members last month.
YMCA employees compared the names of its more than 7,000 members
to those on the registry.
Seward says the Muskegon Y will reprint its membership
application with a statement concerning the new policy. New members
will be checked against the sex-offender registry.
Seward says other YMCAs in the state are considering similar
policies.
