LEVIN-IRAQ
(2007-11-23)
(wgvu) - MICHIGAN SENATOR CARL LEVIN IS CHAMPIONING
ANOTHER PROPOSAL AIMED AT BRINGING MOST TROOPS HOME FROM IRAQ.
THE DEMOCRATIC PROPOSAL WOULD ORDER TROOPS TO BEGIN LEAVING IRAQ
WITHIN 30 DAYS. PRESIDENT BUSH IS ALREADY ON TRACK TO MEET THAT
REQUIREMENT AS HE BEGINS REVERSING THIS YEAR'S 30,000 TROOP
BUILDUP.
THE PROPOSAL ALSO SETS A GOAL OF ENDING COMBAT BY DECEMBER 15TH,
2008.
LEVIN CONTENDS EFFECTIVE ANTI-TERRORISM STRIKES COULD STILL BE
LAUNCHED IN IRAQ. HE AND OTHER DEMOCRATS SAY THE U.S. COULD USE
ELITE SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES WITHOUT THE MASSIVE FOOTPRINT OF
CONVENTIONAL FORCES.
