MICHIGAN PRIMARY
(2007-11-21)
(wgvu) - SUPPORTERS ARE WAITING TO HEAR WHETHER THE
STATE SUPREME COURT WILL LET AN EARLY MICHIGAN PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY
BE HELD ON JANUARY 15TH.
BUT THE MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY CLERKS SAYS IT'S TOO LATE
TO ENSURE THAT ABSENTEE VOTERS WILL BE ABLE TO GET THEIR BALLOTS
AND RETURN THEM ON TIME.
THE STATE COURT OF APPEALS LAST WEEK UPHELD A LOWER COURT'S
OPINION THAT THE LAW SETTING UP THE PRIMARY IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
STATE OFFICIALS ASKED THE SUPREME COURT ON MONDAY TO SEND THE
CASE BACK TO INGHAM COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT AND HAVE THE COMPLAINT
DISMISSED.
THE JUSTICES HAVEN'T INDICATED WHETHER THEY'LL TAKE UP THE
APPEAL.
