BATTLE CREEK STATE SENATE CHALLENGER
(2007-11-16)
(wgvu) - WASHINGTON (AP) - Mark Schauer says Rep. Tim Walberg has sided
with President Bush on the Iraq war and children's health care.
The state Senate's Democratic leader from Battle Creek is trying
to unseat Walberg. He tells The Associated Press that the
Republican from Tipton opposes congressional Democrats' plan to
provide health insurance to an additional 4 million children.
Walberg has said the health insurance program should help poor
children and not be shifted to cover middle-class families or
illegal immigrants.
Schauer claims Walberg also has backed strategy in Iraq that
"has had a blank check on the war."
Walberg's chief of staff says the freshman congressman has
relied upon the judgment of Gen. David Petraeus (peh-TRAY'-uhs) in
Iraq.
