HOUSE-ROLLCALL-US-IRAQ-MICH
(2007-11-15)
(wgvu) - - MICHIGAN'S DELEGATION VOTED STRICTLY ALONG
PARTY LINES AS THE HOUSE PASSED A FUNDING BILL FOR THE IRAQ WAR
THAT WOULD ORDER A WITHDRAWAL OF TROOPS.
THE LEGISLATION WOULD REQUIRE PRESIDENT BUSH TO START BRINGING
TROOPS HOME IN COMING WEEKS, WITH A GOAL OF ENDING COMBAT BY
DECEMBER 2008.
THE MEASURE PASSED 218-203 LAST NIGHT. ALL SIX MICHIGAN
DEMOCRATS VOTED 'YES' AND ALL NINE REPUBLICANS VOTED 'NO.'
PRESIDENT BUSH HAS ALREADY BEGUN REDUCING FORCE LEVELS BUT
OPPOSES A CONGRESSIONALLY MANDATED TIMETABLE ON THE WAR. DEMOCRATS
SAY THEY WANT VOTERS TO KNOW THEY AREN'T GIVING UP.
THE LEGISLATION NOW HEADS TO THE SENATE, WHERE PASSAGE IS
CONSIDERED UNLIKELY.
