Michigan Wildfires
(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan officials say almost 21,000 acres
burned in the state this year.
About 87 percent of those acres were scorched in a fire this
summer in the Upper Peninsula's Luce County.
That was the largest wildfire in the state since 1980. It cost
more than $7 million to fight.
There were 395 fires reported this year across the state
Most of them were caused by people. But the Luce County fire was
started by a lightning strike.
The state reported 375 wildfires burning fewer than 1,500 acres
in 2006.
