Michigan Primary
(2007-11-14)
(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Democrats have sent a letter to
the secretary of state saying they're sticking with the January 15
presidential primary.
But a sentence saying the party reserves all of its rights makes
it possible for the party to switch to a caucus if the primary
isn't held.
The state Court of Appeals plans to hear oral arguments tomorrow
on whether it should overturn a lower court's ruling that the law
setting up the primary is unconstitutional, derailing the upcoming
election.
The uncertainty over whether the primary is on or off is
affecting not just Michigan's election, but New Hampshire's.
There, Secretary of State Bill Gardner is waiting to see what
happens in Michigan before setting the date for his primary, the
first after the Iowa caucuses.
