(wgvu) - AN ALARMING STORY INVOLVING AN EAST GRAND RAPIDS DOCTOR'S OFFICE.

THE KENT COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT IS SENDING LETTERS TO MORE THAN FIVE THOUSAND FORMER PATIENTS OF DERMATOLOGIST ROGERT STOKES. .

COURT RECORDS INDICATE THAT MEDICAL INSTRUMENTS INCLUDING SYRINGES MAY HAVE BEEN RE USED IN STOKES' OFFICE.

THE LETTER SAYS THE INSTRUMENTS MAY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN A STERILIZING SOLUTION .BUT THAT IS QUOTE NOT STANDARD ACCEPTED MEDICAL PRACTICE FOR INSTRUMENTS THAT PENETRATE THE SKIN.

THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT CALLS THE RISK TO PATIENTS QUOTE .VERY SLIGHT ..BUT THE LETTER TELLS PATIENTS TO SEE THEIR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER TO DETERMINE IF TESTS ARE NEEDED FOR H-I-V AND OTHER VIRUSES.

STOKES .MEANWHILE .IS FREE ON BOND IN RELATION TO A DIFFERENT CASE. HE'S AWAITING SENTENCING NEXT MONTH AFTER BEING CONVICTED OF OVERBILLING INSURANCE COMPANIES.
