LEGISLATURE'S BREAK
(2007-11-09)
(wgvu) -
LANSING, MICH. (AP) - IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN IF STATE LAWMAKERS
ARE GOING TO TAKE ALL OF THEIR SCHEDULED TWO-WEEK NOVEMBER BREAK.
BOTH THE STATE HOUSE AND SENATE WERE SCHEDULED TO START THE
BREAK WHEN THEY ADJOURNED YESTERDAY. BUT BOTH CHAMBERS HAVE
TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED SESSIONS FOR TUESDAY.
IT'S NOT CLEAR IF LAWMAKERS WILL HAVE TO SHOW UP. THAT COULD
DEPEND ON WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO. BUT THERE'S PLENTY
OF WORK FOR THEM TO DO IF THEY DO COME BACK TO LANSING.
A REPEAL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE PROPOSED SERVICE TAX ON SOME
BUSINESSES ISN'T COMPLETE. AND THE FATE OF MICHIGAN'S PLANNED
MID-JANUARY PRIMARY ELECTION ISN'T FULLY RESOLVED.
