SERVICE TAX-KELLOGG CEO
(2007-11-06)
(wgvu) - KELLOGG'S TOP EXECUTIVE IS URGING
STATE LAWMAKERS TO REPEAL A SIX PERCENT TAX ON SERVICES.
DAVID MACKAY SAYS THE CEREAL MAKER STRONGLY OPPOSES
THE SERVICE TAX AND SUPPORTS A PLAN TO REPLACE IT WITH A SURCHARGE
ON ANOTHER BUSINESS TAX.
THE SERVICES TAX WAS PASSED A MONTH AGO AS PART OF A DEAL TO
FILL A 1.75 BILLION-DOLLAR SHORTFALL IN THE CURRENT BUDGET YEAR.
BUSINESSES SAY THE TAX IS UNFAIR AND MAKES MICHIGAN A LESS
ATTRACTIVE PLACE TO DO BUSINESS.
THE LEGISLATURE ALREADY IS TAKING STEPS TO REPLACE THE TAX.
