(wgvu) - LOCAL UNITED AUTO WORKERS LEADERS HAVE
UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSED A TENTATIVE FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT WITH FORD.
THE DEAL IS SIMILAR TO THOSE RATIFIED BY UAW MEMBERS AT GENERAL
MOTORS AND CHRYSLER.
FORD WILL CONTRIBUTE 13 BILLION DOLLARS TO A UNION-RUN TRUST FOR
RETIREE HEALTH CARE.
WORKERS WILL GET ABOUT 13,000 DOLLARS IN ECONOMIC GAINS OVER THE
LIFE OF THE CONTRACT.
FORD PROMISES NOT TO CLOSE ANY PLANTS BEYOND THREE FACILITIES
ALREADY IDENTIFIED.
NEW HIRES WILL GET $14.20 AN HOUR INSTEAD OF THE CURRENT $28.88
AN HOUR BUT CAN MOVE UP TO THE HIGHER WAGE BASED ON SENIORITY.
UP TO 20 PERCENT OF THE WORK FORCE CAN GET THE LOWER PAY RATE.
