Ex-Saginaw Mayor Wraps Up Tenure
(2007-11-05)
(wgvu) - SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - A former Saginaw mayor who is awaiting
trial on charges of arson and insurance fraud is wrapping up her
tenure on City Council.
The Saginaw News reports that an evening meeting will be the
last for Wilmer Jones Ham McZee. The mother of ex-Detroit Pistons
player Darvin Ham announced her plans not to run for re-election
over the summer.
She joined the council in 1994 when members appointed her to a
vacant seat. In 2001, she became the first woman to serve as
Saginaw mayor.
McZee is accused of setting her 1986 Mercedes-Benz on fire March
9th of last year and trying to make a false insurance claim.
She has pleaded not guilty in the case. Her trial is set to
begin November 20th.
