Bush Presents Middle of Freedom to U of M Prof

(wgvu) - WASHINGTON (AP) - A University of Michigan professor was among
eight honorees presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Francis Collins was honored for his leadership of the Human
Genome Project and for expanding the understanding of the human
DNA.
Other recipients at the White House ceremony included former
NAACP leader Benjamin Hooks and author Harper Lee, who wrote the
novel "To Kill a Mockingbird."
President Truman established the Medal of Freedom in 1945.
It's the nation's highest civilian award, recognizing
contributions in science, the arts, literature and the cause of
peace and freedom.
