STATE BUDGET-TUITION GRANTS
(2007-11-01)
(wgvu) - STUDENTS AT PRIVATE MICHIGAN COLLEGES WHO
GET NEED-BASED FINANCIAL AID FROM THE STATE CAN COUNT ON GETTING
THOSE GRANTS THIS YEAR.
GOVERNOR GRANHOLM SAYS SHE WON'T VETO AROUND 56 MILLION DOLLARS
IN NEED-BASED AID LAWMAKERS SET ASIDE IN THE BUDGET BILLS THEY JUST
PASSED.
THE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR HAS TRIED FOR FIVE YEARS TO EITHER CUT
THE MONEY OR SHIFT IT INTO A FINANCIAL AID FUND FOR STUDENTS AT
BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES.
BUT LAWMAKERS HAVE PROTECTED THE PROGRAM FROM THOSE CHANGES.
