Good Hygiene Answer to Staph Infections
of its schools due to a confirmed staph infection case.
Students at Southfield's Thompson Middle School were sent home
about an hour after Michigan health officials told reporters that
frequent hand-washing and good hygiene is better at fighting such
infections than closing buildings.
Southfield deputy school superintendent Ken Siver says a
cleaning crew will wipe down high-touch surfaces such as tabletops
and doorknobs at Thompson.
The school is expected to reopen Wednesday.
Schools across the state recently have reported cases of
methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA.
