FORD BOOK
(2007-10-30)
(wgvu) - A NEW BOOK SAYS THAT EX-PRESIDENT GERALD FORD
BELIEVED PRESIDENT BUSH MADE THE RIGHT DECISION TO GO TO WAR IN
IRAQ BUT DID SO FOR THE WRONG REASON.
THE BOOK IS CALLED "WRITE IT WHEN I'M GONE" AND IS BY THOMAS
DEFRANK, WHO COVERED FORD AS VICE PRESIDENT AND PRESIDENT.
DEFRANK QUOTES FORD AS SAYING THE IRAQ WAR WAS JUSTIFIED BECAUSE
SADDAM HUSSEIN WAS EVIL.
BUT FORD SAYS BUSH SHOULDN'T HAVE RELIED ON CLAIMS THAT IRAQ HAD
WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.
FORD REPRESENTED WESTERN MICHIGAN IN CONGRESS FOR MANY YEARS AND BECAME PRESIDENT AFTER RICHARD NIXON QUIT IN 1974.
FORD DIED LAST YEAR AT 93.
