Prosectution Rests in Chandler Murder Case
(2007-10-26)
(wgvu) - HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - The prosecution has rested its case after
almost two weeks of testimony in the rape-slaying of a Hope College
student in the late 1970s.
Janet Chandler was 23 when she disappeared in January 1979 from
her job as a night clerk at a Holland hotel.
Her body was discovered the next day lying near a highway.
Authorities say Chandler was kidnapped, gang-raped, tortured and
strangled.
A woman who was Chandler's boss and five men who were working as
security guards and were hotel guests have been charged.
The ex-boss and one of the men earlier pleaded guilty to
second-degree murder.
The four other men are on trial on charges of open murder.
