MSU Medical Center in Grand Rapids Given Greenlight
(2007-10-26)
(wgvu) - EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Board of Trustees at Michigan
State University has authorized the construction of a $90 million
extension of the university's medical school.
Work will begin next spring in Grand Rapids on the seven-story
Secchia Center. It will open in 2010.
The university will continue to operate its medical school in
East Lansing, but Grand Rapids will become the school's base of
operations.
The Grand Rapids Press says no state money will be spent on the
180,000-square-foot building.
More than $35 million has been raised so far in a joint effort
by Michigan State and a Grand Rapids development group called Grand
Action.
