Lake Linden Treasurer Sentenced
(wgvu) - HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) - The former village treasurer in Lake
Linden is headed to jail for a year.
Cheryl Stevens has been sentenced following a no contest plea in
Houghton County Circuit Court. She was fired earlier this year when
an audit of the Upper Peninsula village's water and sewer funds
turned up an unexplained deficit of more than $75,000.
She has already been in jail a month and a half.
Stevens told Judge Garfield Hood she was sorry during Tuesday's
sentencing hearing.
Her attorney says she'll pay back what she took, although the
amount is still being determined.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for next month.
