(wgvu) - A JURY IN ANN ARBOR RESUMES
DELIBERATIONS THIS MORNING IN THE TRIAL OF A MAN IN THE RAPE AND
SUFFOCATION OF AN EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY STUDENT.
THE JURORS TOLD THE JUDGE THEY WERE UNABLE TO REACH A VERDICT
FRIDAY IN THE CASE AGAINST 21-YEAR-OLD ORANGE TAYLOR III AND WERE
DISMISSED FOR THE WEEKEND. THEY FAILED TO REACH A VERDICT
YESTERDAY.
THE DECEMBER KILLING OF 22-YEAR-OLD LAURA DICKINSON AND A DELAY
IN INFORMING THE PUBLIC ABOUT IT LED TO THE FIRING OF UNIVERSITY
PRESIDENT JOHN FALLON.
CLOSING ARGUMENTS WERE HELD FRIDAY. TAYLOR IS CHARGED WITH AN
OPEN COUNT OF MURDER, WHICH GIVES THE JURY A CHOICE OF FIRST- OR
SECOND-DEGREE MURDER. HE'S ALSO CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE CRIMINAL
SEXUAL CONDUCT.
