Greektown Casinos
(2007-10-22)
(wgvu) - DETROIT (AP) - Businessman Ted Gatzaros has been awarded a 1
percent ownership in Detroit's Greektown Casino.
The Detroit Free Press and Detroit News say that the Michigan
Gaming Control Board also granted him a gambling license.
Gatzaros was approved after a state investigation.
Michigan voters approved casinos for Detroit in 1996. MotorCity
and MGM Grand opened temporary casinos in 1999, with Greektown
following a year later.
Gatzaros and a business partner were awarded one of the three
casino contracts. They owned 40 percent of a casino project but had
to sell their shares when problems with their applications
surfaced.
They sold to the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
