Ax the Tax Coalition
Nearly 40 business groups are teaming up in an effort to repeal
the new tax on services that takes effect in December.
The so-called Ax the Tax Coalition says it will work with the
Michigan Legislature to repeal legislation that expands the 6
percent sales tax to more services.
If lawmakers don't act, the coalition plans to gather signatures
to put a measure repealing the tax before voters on the statewide
ballot.
The service tax applies to commercial landscaping, consulting,
skiing and other services.
Bills to repeal the tax already are in the works in the
Legislature, but Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm says there
must be replacement tax revenue if the service tax goes away.
