(wgvu) - AUTHORITIES IN OAKLAND COUNTY
ARE OFFERING A REWARD FOR TIPS TO HELP CATCH THOSE WHO DESTROYED OR
DAMAGED 40 TO 45 GRAVE MARKERS AT A SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN CEMETERY.
THE ATTACKS HAPPENED OCT. 1 AND AGAIN ON FRIDAY AT THE
8,500-GRAVE HIGHLAND CEMETERY IN HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, ABOUT 15 MILES
WE
ST OF PONTIAC.
TOWNSHIP CLERK MARY MCDONELL TOLD THE OAKLAND PRESS THAT ABOUT
10 TO 15 HEADSTONES AND SOME STATUES WERE VANDALIZED IN THE FIRST
ATTACK. ABOUT 30 MORE WERE KNOCKED OVER IN THE SECOND ATTACK.
SOME HEADSTONES DATING BACK TO THE 1870S WERE BROKEN.
SO FAR, AUTHORITIES REPORT NO SUSPECTS. THE COUNTY SHERIFF'S
DEPARTMENT IS OFFERING A REWARD, WITH THE AMOUNT DEPENDING ON THE
INFORMATION SUPPLIED.
