Jarvi Symphony
his contract as music director of the New Jersey Symphony through
2009.
The contract began in 2005 and was to expire at the end of next
season.
The 70-year-old conductor and former music director of the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra says he looks forward to bringing great
music to New Jersey audiences.
Jarvi also says he hopes to contribute to the New Jersey
Symphony's artistic growth beyond the end of his contract
extension.
The Estonia-born Jarvi emigrated to the United States in 1980.
He remains music director emeritus of the Detroit Symphony after
serving as music director from 1990 until 2005.
