War Hero Stamp
(2007-10-15)
(wgvu) - A national Polish-American group has
launched a campaign to convince the U.S. Postal Service to honor a
World War II hero with his own stamp.
The Polish American Congress says Lieutenant Colonel Matt Urban
earned 29 medals including the Medal of Honor. His military
decorations include seven Purple Hearts, one each for wounds he
suffered in combat in North Africa and Europe.
Urban was born in Buffalo, New York. After the war, he moved to
Holland, Michigan, where he died in 1995 at age 75.
The Polish American Congress has launched a nationwide petition
drive in support of an Urban stamp.
