AUTO TALKS-CHRYSLER
(2007-10-12)
(wgvu) - CHRYSLER WORKERS ARE BACK ON THE JOB, BUT SOME
WONDER IF THEIR SIX-HOUR STRIKE WAS ENOUGH TO GET A GOOD DEAL FROM
THE COMPANY.
EVEN AS THEY WAIT TO HEAR THE DETAILS, INDUSTRY ANALYSTS ARE
PREDICTING FORD WILL TRY TO GET EVEN MORE CONCESSIONS FROM THE UAW
THAN CHRYSLER.
UNION LEADERS HAVE YET TO BRIEF THE CHRYSLER RANK-AND-FILE ON
THE TENTATIVE DEAL REACHED LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
THE CHRYSLER PACT MIRRORS THE UAW'S NEW CONTRACT WITH GENERAL
MOTORS. IT CALLS FOR THE COMPANY TO PAY INTO A UNION-RUN TRUST THAT
WILL COVER FUTURE RETIREE HEALTH CARE EXPENSES.
IT ALSO INCLUDES JOB SECURITY PLEDGES FROM THE COMPANY AND A
TWO-TIER WAGE SCALE.
